How to Prefeed Before Trapping: A Step-by-Step Guide for Better Trapping Success
The first thing that catches my eye is the bait, not even in the trap yet, just sitting there like it belongs. It looks simple. But it changes how everything feels out there. When you prefeed, you are not trying to force a fast result. You are letting an animal find food in a calm way, then come back again because it makes sense to it.
I think about the small signs that show up after a day or two. A few tracks pressed into soft dirt. A bit of feed gone, but not all of it. Sometimes nothing looks different at first and that can mess with your head. Still, you keep it steady. Same place, same smell, same timing if you can. The goal is for the spot to feel normal, like part of the route already.
It helps to start with less pressure than you want to use later. No trap yet. No big change in the area. Just enough bait to be noticed and not so much that it turns into a feast that lasts forever. You watch what happens and adjust without making a big scene about it.
When the visits feel regular, trapping starts to feel less like guessing. It feels more like stepping into something that is already happening.
