Nature
One of the neat things about working in a pristine piece of New Zealand bush is that you never know what you will find around the next corner and the forest is constantly changing as the seasons progress.
We have now left autumn behind but for those lucky people that visited during that time the trees had an amazing fruiting season. In some places in the forest the Tawa seeds were so thick on the floor you almost walked on nothing else while the Miro and Rimu seeds were also everywhere. If you stood under a female Rimu tree it was almost like standing in the rain, the sound of the tiny fruits dropping was amazing to behold and with so few Rats and Possums around it accumulated everywhere.
With the arrival of the wet weather the fungi now is growing for it and the types and colours are truely spectacular, pictured are some photos of New Zealands Blue Mushroom taken from around our course they are also called Werewerekokako after the blue wattles of the native bird the Kokako or their latin name is Entoloma hochstetteri.
Very little is known about these strange fungi however they are everywhere in the forest at the moment, research is currently underway by a laboratory here in NZ to find out more about them as they have some unusual qualitys.
