Conservation
A lot of our customers ask us what is involved in attempting this forest restoration project so I thought this would be a good opportunity to share some numbers.
In September we removed 800 possums rats and stoats from a 50 hectare area in the forest.
This was not easy and required months of preparation
1 Over 9km of trapping network had to be cut and marked in a grid network over a 50 hectare area
2 Over 515 traps were then laid out on this network
3 300 of those traps were handmade by the team at Canopy Tours
4 Pre feeding was commenced in August this involved feeding all the traps regually to attract the animals into the area
5 Over 700 hours were spent cutting trails making traps consulting with Department of Conservation on best practice pre feeding the area laying of traps baiting the traps removing dead animals and resetting.
6 Over 40000 was spent in materials and labour
