We have hammered the pest population Forest Restoration Project

Restoration

So were now 5 nights into our pest eradication programme and the results have been outstanding. Despite the rain we are still removing large amounts of pests.

It appears we have totally obliterated the Rat population with rat catches reducing dramatically each day to the point on the last night we only caught 3 after 169 on night 1.

The possum catch is interesting it started low but continues to climb. Even more interesting is the smaller less dominating possums are now being caught after the big ones were the first to go earlier in the week.

Its ugly ugly work but the results are so satisfying. This morning as I was collecting possums a North Island Robin and a Tomtit fluttered in to say hello and to know well have more of them makes it all so worthwhile.

Total pests removed to date are 224 possums 316 Rats and 6 stoats
